Compassionate Conservatism is not just a slogan to me

on December 2, 2005

I do not think that President Bush is a good example of a Compassionate Conservative. In my mind, at least, anyone who is for the death penalty cannot be a true Compassionate Conservative. But I do think there are real guidelines that make a Conservative an honest to goodness Compassionate Conservative. The main one being pro-life in all aspects. Another is to recognize that some people need welfare (not corporations!) Tolerance is important, but without going overboard on the PC. We have a moral obligation to each other and to our environment. It’s a difficult balance to be a Compassionate Conservative, but its not just a slogan to me. To me, it brings out the ideals of the American spirit.
