Five Ft. Three

Only wanted babies are considered babies

on October 17, 2007

After reading an article about the amazing things doctors can do to help babies while still in the womb, it occurred to me that only wanted babies were considered babies. Or think of the couple who go to great lengths to get pregnant sometimes, they too are using medical breakthroughs to make their dream of having a child a reality. Meanwhile, there are women getting pregnant and using a medical procedure to end the life of the child in their womb. So then it would seem that only wanted children are considered children by the mother (as far as the government is concerned, it’s not a child until some ambiguous time of the second trimester). So as a society, we have decided to let each individual woman decide based on her own personal beliefs and situation to decide which children are wanted, and thus considered life, and which ones are not wanted, and disposable. I’d like to know where the logic in that is, and why do we continue to let it stand?
