Why I like a Constitutional Amendment to define citizenship to unborn

on November 6, 2007

Of course the obvious thing in making a Constituional amendment to extend the rights of American citizens to the unborn would mean that abortion could no longer be legal is very appealing to me. I mean we have the technology today which shows us in the womb the new life which we should no longer deny, and also medical advances that mean babies can survive outside the womb at earlier and earlier stages, so random cut-offs to say when a baby is a person is way too nebulous anymore. Codifying the fact that an unborn baby has rights as a fully human being is long overdue.

A secondary benefit to defining the unborn as American citizens is that the wording can also limit citizenship to those conceived by American citizens, no longer could someone cross the border to deliver their child so that that child gains instant citizenship just because it was born here.

I believe this absolutely is a proper function of our government to start protecting our posterity, we lost enough futures already.
