I find it difficult to believe how anyone at all could read the Politifact piece on Wilmington and not admit that it was all a gross fabrication on Mr. Beck's part. Politifact contacted his producer to ask for sources and confirmation and received no answer. The information Politifact obtained regarding the amounts and disbursement of government funds to Wilmington and the county surrounding is information easily available to all members of the public and is obtained without any fees. The information clearly shows that Wilmington and the surrounding area received several million dollars in government aid, with local officials attempting to help their citizens by obtaining even further aid. This would clearly prove that Mr. Beck's story was a complete falsehood. Whether his research was done by himself or his staffers, he personally presented the story as fact, when in reality it was complete fiction. And in the end, as his presentation under his own name, he retains at least an ethical obligation to ensure that the information he presents is accurate and truthful. I'm surprised that Mr. Beck's listeners, who are admonished to 'do their own homework', didn't discover that the story was entirely untrue. It's common for his devotees to claim that Politifact or anyone else for that matter is 'attacking the man because they can't attack his words'; however, it would take someone delusional to fail to admit that this story is no less than a total lie. What say you to the story of Wilmington, Beth? Had you done your homework on this one and discovered yourself it was completely untrue? It doesn't take much research to obtain the relevant facts and figures; I'm sure that no one used to 'doing their homework' would have had any trouble whatsoever with it. Ignorance may be bliss, but knowledge is power.And I'll be surprised if you leave this comment up… it's so much easier to ignore what you don't want to admit.
The story is not completely untrue, Saty. 60 Minutes is the one who called Wilmington "Ground Zero" for the bad economy. TARP money was getting thrown around to lots of places who didn't ask for it. Glenn Beck wanted to highlight how the town has had churches of various denominations join forces to help the people in the area. How can highlighting that be a negative to you? Just because it didn't involve President Obama? Because they created a prayer room for people to come and bring their intentions, and to pray for others? That is no lie. Why do you have a problem with Mr. Beck coming to one town to try to bring them help? If they got so much money from the government, then why were they still struggling?
Mr. Beck stated that the town had refused government help and was working without government help, Beth.What makes the Wilmington really special, he continued, is that Wilmington refuses government assistance, a key tenet of the political philosophy he espouses on his shows."It went from the No. 1 most up-and-coming city, and a city everybody wants to live in, to ground zero. The town's leaders were beating down doors to get assistance for the citizens. Meanwhile, Mr. Beck stated that the town hadn't taken any money from the government AND didn't want any. But the town's leaders were working as hard as they could to get that assistance!!!Do you dispute that the town and county got millions of dollars? And how can you reconcile that with Mr. Beck's statements that the town hadn't taken any money from the government?

Boycotts and pickets and protests and letter writing and partitions, to get people removed for the media are the lefties way of fair and balanced.

In fact, he himself could in fact (on some issues) come across as two faced. He plays the left/right paradigm. I've pointed out such instances. Beth, First of all, glad to see you back online.Second, IMO, the nobody is to blame for Beck losing his show except himself.The trouble started when he began to alienate his supporters and sponsors, that was the beginning of the end.Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing (and should not be abused), but money talks and once you lose that you are off the air.
The cozy relationship between he and Gold line and gold line's grotesque premiums didn't help his cause either.

With the number of times Beck has had to retract statements and issue apologies, you'd think he'd have fired his research team ages ago, or at least started checking up on them himself (if he doesn't already do a good part of his own research).But one of the things that boggles me is how his own supporters don't find the misinformation themselves, if they're 'doing their homework'. Beck's agenda, while having morsals of truth within, is not the quest for truth exclusively. It is instead an agenda to discredit democrats and their policies. In so doing, it will usher in Republicans.

You don't really listen to him, do you?As for Wilmington, Beck's angle was on the people of Wilmington, not on the local government, he was showing how the people and the churches were getting involved with their own recovery. If TARP money was thrown in their direction, that doesn't mean they begged for it, lots of places got projects they didn't ask for.

That's common usage. If you want to refer to the citizenry versus the governing bodies, you say 'the people of Wilmington'.So what evidence? There is no need for homework for the story of Wilmington, did you watch the actual show? It was Glenn talking to the people of Wilmington, when you are talking to people about their lives, there is no evidence, you are simply hearing their story!And for the last time, TARP money getting sent to the region does not count!
