Five Ft. Three

“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.” ― Milton Friedman

I may disagree with you, but I will defend your right to say it

on August 24, 2011

A hundred years ago (or so it seems) I used to frequent a political forum where the left and right disagreed, but the saying in my title often came up, and I truly felt like people on both sides believed it. But here is it 2011 and the attacks from the left on opposing views has gotten downright ugly. Maxine Waters wants the Tea Party to go to hell? John Kerry wants the media to ignore the Tea Party? Our own president tries to claim that an entire news network really isn’t one? Seriously, on these statements alone the rational American would think that something ain’t quite right with the left these days. Tis why I think the lefties are not very rational.

  1. The Left is screeching like I've never seen. Maybe, in part, because the Left sees that their policies are failures but can't admit that?

  2. Beth says:

It's obvious to us, of course, AOW, that the left is so desperate that all they can do is try to kill the messenger, because they certainly cannot argue on the actual messages.

  3. soapster says:

"Our own president tries to claim that an entire news network really isn't one?"Little different than a supposedly "fair and balanced" network intentionally downplaying or flat out failing to report the second place finisher in the Ames, Iowa straw poll when said finisher came within 0.9% of winning. Why one might say they're suggesting their isn't one.

  4. Dave Miller says:

Beth, both sides are essentially out to kill any messenger that/who does not comply with their worldview of how things ought to be.I agree with people who say Obama should be calling the Maxine Waters' of the world of the Democratic Party on the carpet. And I believe Biden, if he said the things attributed to him during the debt crisis, ought to own up and apologize. However to imply that only the left is guilty is ridiculous.Yes, Soapy has a point, to a point. FOX News shunted any talk of Ron Paul into a closet. Why was that? Because they are fair and balanced? Is President Obama critical of FOX? Yes.Is the right critical and dismissive of other media outlets? Where did "Lamestream Media" come from if not Sarah Palin?Have any right leaning Presidential contenders, other than Jon Huntsman who has no chance, said front runner Gov. Perry was wrong to use the word treasonous to label the FED?There are plenty of idiotic statements from both sides of the political spectrum. Idiocy is not just a left side trait.

  5. soapster says:

I'm not a fan of Perry's. However, Constitutionally speaking, the FED's actions are treasonous.Article I Section 8. Check it

  6. BB-Idaho says:

Art 1-sec 8 refers to the powers of congress. Congress passed theFed Reserve Act in 1913. The treason clause, Art 3-sec 3 gives a very specific definition of treason. Check it.

  7. soapster says:

I am well aware BB. Article I Section 8:The Congress shall have power…To coin Money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures; To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States; Now you and I both know the legislature, which is Constitutionally delegated the authority to coin money and punish counterfieters, has abdicated its responsibility in this regard. As for Article III Section 3 re: Treason you will note it states levying War against the United States. War, certainly in these modern times, can be waged any number of ways. Having said that I think it necessary to be reminded of some words of wisdom if not a dire warnings itself."I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." – Thomas Jefferson

  8. BB-Idaho says:

Soap, I'm no constitutional lawyerbut, my problem is reconciling constitutional 'treason' as definedversus constitutional ', regulate the value thereof'. Ifas is posited that is treason, thenit follows that should congresskill the Fed, there will be thosethat would argue THAT treasonous. We agree, I think, that money policy may be considered good orbad policy, but should Perry persist in his claim of treasonin court, I doubt the merit of his case…I suspect he was just carelessly over-hyperbolising…

  9. Dave Miller says:

    BB, hyperbolising? Now there's a great word…You should win a prize for that one… I like it!jajaja…

  10. BB-Idaho says:

Prize? No, Dave..its a word appropriate for our times but dang,I hope you spell better than me

  11. soapster says:

Perry's shoots from the hip and from the mouth. He's a real tough talkin' Texan with a progressivist bent.Sound familiar? Some people never learn I guess.

  12. Maxine Waters wants the Tea Party to go to hell? Well Beth it works both ways. I feel the same way about Maxine Waters..

  13. Z-man says:

Well to be fair she also got on Obama's case for not visiting any 'hoods during his $1 million bus tour.

  14. Beth says:

I honestly think they threw Perry in the mix just to give fresh meat to the media, so they can stop harping on the real candidates, just my theory.

  15. Dave Miller says:

Beth, they being who? Are you saying Perry is not making his own decisions? If there are no other candidates, I believe Rick Perry will be the nominee.

  16. soapster says:

    Perry is the Bilderberg's choice.

  17. The left is talking about the Constitution and Treason!Under Obama the Constitution is as meaningful and as relevant as yesterdays comics.I guess that we all could all use a good laugh now and then…
