For anyone out there looking for government hand outs and freebies, it appears that you would rather give up your freedoms than to look in the mirror for solutions. Don’t be so down on yourself, I believe in you, even if you don’t. Many, many people have taken the opportunities our freedoms provide for them and have succeeded! Be inspired by their successes and know that you can do it, too.
You have welfare readers? You are correct, our goldanged government is a giveaway
handout operation. Has been for a very long time:
“To provide employment for the poor, and support for the indigent, is among the primary, and, at the same time, not least difficult cares of the public authority.” — James Madison, 1820
Actually, the entitlements are a relatively new, maybe 100 years or so.
Madison also said, “Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.”
Yes, entitlements are fairly recent; the Homestead Act of 1892, which opened up millions of
free acres free for any family that wanted to start a farm. (Wish they still had a deal like that!)
I think most everyone is for some sort of safety net, the descriptive range of which is the contention-should people starve/ have shelter all the way up to should the gov’t be paying for
i-pods, widescreen TVs and new cars and food stamps being used for prime steak. It can
be a habitual thing, welfare…and how that is fixed, how these people get into a productive
way of life…that seems to be a tough nut to crack.
I have always said that yes, there will always be some people who will always need help, but I think temporary help for those who are physically able should be taken care of through charitable means. I find that to be more compassionate than having a bunch of bureaucrats with red tape be the ones helping those in need.
